Thomas was lauded for directing 鈥,鈥 Blondell for directing 鈥溾 and Tautz for her memorable performance as Nora in Lit Moon鈥檚 production of 鈥.鈥

鈥淲ith this new theatrical adaptation of the classic novel, we were attempting to thread the needle: can we satisfy the 鈥楢ustenites鈥 in the crowd by honoring the source material and also have a rollicking good time in the theater for people new to the story as well?鈥 Mitchell says. 鈥淎fter a sold-out run and critical acclaim, I am thrilled to say, 鈥榊es, we can!鈥欌

Blondell, who is in Kazakhstan directing 鈥淎 Midsummer Night鈥檚 Dream,鈥 says staging 鈥淭he Magic Flute鈥 was one of the most challenging productions of his career. 鈥淢any small colleges don鈥檛 tackle these productions,鈥 Blondell says. 鈥淚鈥檓 proud of the departments and students who want to grapple and engage with this great material.鈥 The show featured 17 musicians and 24 cast members, and required sets to be built at 四虎影院 then hauled to the New Vic in downtown Santa Barbara.

Henrik Ibsen鈥檚 drama 鈥淎 Doll House鈥 features Nora, who like Lady Macbeth, is one of the most iconic theatrical roles for a female actor. 鈥淚conic roles are always completely terrifying and entirely thrilling to play,鈥 Tautz says. 鈥淚 am truly grateful to John Blondell for casting me; it鈥檚 a role of a lifetime. When playing Nora I feel like I鈥檓 on a roller coaster in the dark 鈥 I鈥檝e been on the ride before but the dips and loops seem to be new every time. It鈥檚 a long play with a lot of text with a big stick of dynamite at the end so it takes a lot of stamina.鈥

Due to the Thomas Fire and subsequent debris flow, the production was postponed for more than a year. 鈥淭his long, slow cooking time gave so much more dimension to the role,鈥 Tautz says. 鈥淚 hope we will continue to play it and tour it in the future.鈥

In October, 四虎影院鈥檚 theater department will stage 鈥淭he Inspector General,鈥 written by Nikolai Gogol and adapted by Jeffrey Hatcher and directed by Thomas.
